Kenyatta University established an Open Learning Centre in Embu Town in the year 2002 and later elevated it to a full Campus in August 2013 in line with the University's Strategic and Vision Plan. This is agreable with Kenya Vision 2030's goal of enhancing access to University education through expansion of facilities and increasing University presence in various parts of the country. Embu Campus is located along Patel Road Ghanshayam Building next to Panesic Hotel in Embu Town. The Campus has all the necessary amenities, appreciable infrastructure and adequate learning facilities. The scenery is admirable, the atmosphere is serine and the environment is conducive for learning. The Campus is deeply committed to upholding the responsibility that comes with its rich environment. Our students hail from diverse backgrounds both locally and nationally.
The students’ population has continued to rise quite steadily, with the current number standing at 530 taking various courses in the fields of education, business, humanities and social sciences and information technology. Being a dynamic institution, the Campus engages with the community, and is steadily elevating, through research and knowledge application, the quality of lives of people in the society. Embu Campus is home to some of the world’s best scholars, researchers and experts in various fields. We pride ourselves in providing high quality programmes that attract individuals who wish to acquire skills that the global market needs. What gives our graduates an edge over others is a hands-on knowledge in their particular professions. With the relevant input from stakeholders, our programmes are tailored to equip our graduates with leading edge skills for the workplace. Already, many of our graduates are exposed to new employment opportunities by working on 'live' projects during their study, or through course related placements.
As a centre of excellence, the Campus offers the best form of education in flexible modes of study that are in congruence with the needs of the learner and the society. In this way, our students are assured of the best achievement in their education. We are proud to have a large number of undergraduate and post graduate students taking their studies through the Digital School of Open and Distance Learning, a programme meant for those students whose schedules do not offer an opportunity for full time studies. Other programmes are Part-time (evenings and weekends)
