Eastlands formed part of the colonial government's African delegated zone.

Eastlands Library is located here, in the Makadara constituency.

The library was opened in the late 1960s and serves the neighbouring estates of Hamza, Jericho, California, Huruma, Eastleigh and Buru Buru amongst others.

Some of the building codes incorporated use of carcinogenic asbestos as roofing material, posing a danger to the 189 library users from 2018/2019, which Book Bunk has since removed as part of the restoration work.

The library is a stone's throw away from the law courts and county offices, and shares a compound with the Makadara Huduma Centre, making it the busiest of the three libraries.
